Mama in the Big Apple

Baby Girl,
You just had your first trip to NYC! I had a very quick work event to attend so we headed out early (EARLY!) Sunday morning and got home late last night. We stayed in a beautiful hotel in the Upper East Side and were within walking distance of Times Square, Rockefeller Center, and the NBC and Today show studios. We walked and walked until I thought my poor pregnant feet would fall off. But I did get to see some of New York City's most famous spots, so I will post pictures soon.

I have to tell you what a good traveler you were. You only made me a little uncomfortable on the three hour flight there, but I learned my lesson and got up and walked around on the way home. Much better. And being pregnant did get me a little sympathy from the teachers and students I was traveling with. I tried to be a trooper, but I know if this trip would have been a month from now, I might not have made it!

New York just has such a different pace and atmosphere. Everyone seems to just walk everywhere (good exercise, yes) but there was nothing but concrete everywhere. Trees were planted in the middle of the sidewalk, but there didn't seem to be anywhere to just sit and relax. You definitely couldn't see the stars at night, and I know that your Joe Dog would have been terribly unhappy with nowhere to roll in the grass and tromp through anyone's garden. Very few people that I talked to said that they owned a car, and you had to be prepared to brave the weather and the subway to get anywhere. It was surprising to see so much trash piled up on the streets (occasionally, it smelled just horrible). I said a thankful prayer for all the NY sanitation workers, because that place would just be buried under in a few days if they stopped doing their jobs.

But someday I hope to take you back there to see more of the cultural side of NY. I didn't get to go see the Metropolitan Museum of Art or a show on Broadway, and I know there are tons of little neighborhood restaurants with amazing food that we just can't get here in Texas. We might even bring your Daddy along since he just adores all the shopping... :)

The one nice thing about traveling for work is that your Daddy is so adorably sweet when he misses me. He says it is so quiet in the evenings with no one to talk to. He had to amuse himself and play with Joe Dog. So when we talk on the phone, he makes sure to tell me how much he misses and loves me and can't wait to give me a big hug and kiss. You will have him wrapped around your finger someday, and I am sure being apart from you will just about kill him!

Pictures soon...
