Doing a Good Job Growing Up

At some point last week, you realized that you have a voice. You are making all sorts of noises all the time! Chad says that you are going to be a big talker... He's Mackenzie's dad, he would know! When we are in the car, I am usually singing and you are just chatting away in the back seat. You really gave your Grammy an earfull when we were on the phone.

You also are following your developmental charts perfectly! We were looking last night and checking them off: Likes to explore faces with her hands, check. (Especially at 4:00 am when Mommy lays you in bed between her and Daddy. His goatee feels so interesting!) Sits up by leaning on her hands, check. Making noises, check.

This weekend we were super thankful for Aunt Rachael. The last time she visited, she brought you Emerson's little exercise saucer thingy, and we finally put it together. You really seemed to like "standing" upright and playing with all the parts. I was sorting through all your clothes again and really needed something to keep you busy and happy. We packed away everything that you have outgrown and dug through the huge tubs of Emerson's things. It's like you have a brand new wardrobe! It is always interesting to pack away the smaller sizes because it makes me remember times when you wore certain outfits. I even wondered if maybe some day you would have a little sister that might wear them again!

That seemed to take up almost all of Saturday, but we managed to clean the house up since we invited some friends over to watch the NCAA Final Four games. UConn lost, so we just won our $100 back. Now we are cheering for UNC to win!

Sunday was a big milestone - we took you to the church nursery for the first time. We kept you with us for the big service, but we ended up with all three of us out in the lobby so you could be noisy and have your bottle. So we decided it was absolutely fine for you to be in the nursery while we went to our class. You had a full tummy and a clean diaper, so they had it pretty easy. You just rocked and went to sleep. The workers said you were a sweet girl so they will be happy to have you back soon!

It was a bit weird leaving you with strangers. You are so flexible and didn't seem to mind at all, but your Daddy and I felt like we needed to tell them every little habit of yours. They sort of ask for a status update (last bottle, preferences on sleep, etc.) and we probably gave them way too much information. "She likes to be swaddled but with her arms out and she likes being rocked, but you should lay her on her left side, and she won't take a pacifier, only sucks her thumb, and...." I eventually just said they will figure it out! If this was what it is like to leave her for one hour, I can imagine how crazy I will get when she goes to preschool!
