My "Happiness Project"

So in the spirit of a new house, new attitude about work, and a new routine, I started reading this book:

I think I want to slow down the pace and try to let the chapters marinate with me for a day or two since she has it nicely broken down into the twelve categories that she focused on. I just finished the chapter on energy, about how to do little things that make you feel better and enjoy your surroundings. She talked alot about decluttering her home and how it made the whole environment more pleasant and calm. Knowing firsthand that this is difficult but possible, I totally agree. When we put our house on the market and cleaned everything out, it made me wonder why we had been keeping all the stuff that never gets used anyway. (Some of it is still in a storage building that we plan to clean out soon. No more paying $50 a month for it!)

She also talked about getting more sleep, something that I often know I need to do and have a hard time doing it. I totally identified with her situation of putting her child to bed and only having time for herself afterwards, when it is already too late to start a movie or read for an hour. Now she has a nighttime routine where she does light cleaning and hits the sack by 10:00. Makes the morning more manageable and makes her feel refreshed rather than exhausted when the alarm goes off. I thought about this last night as I wanted to put off taking my shower when it was already 10:30! Gonna try harder.

The book also says that acting like you are more energetic (even when you think you are pooped) can actually give you more energy! When I come home from work with aching feet and just want to lay on the couch, I am going to try and convince myself that I will want to play with Cameron about 2 minutes after I actually start doing it. Midway through, it's like a second wind kicks in when your body says "Yes, let's do it!" I hear that this phenomenon can also occur with exercise, like say maybe jogging, but I certainly cannot attest to that. :)

**Really need to make this a priority as I am struggling to keep my eyelids up at work. **

The next chapter is on happiness in your marriage, so I think it will be good!
