Breaking the News

Well, apparently my mom and sister will be the last to know. I wanted to tell Mom in person because she is coming this weekend, but I also couldn't tell Rachael because she might not be able to keep a secret. Wait, I take that back. We are going to visit Bo's Dad and family next Saturday, so THEY will be the last to know. I guess Bo broke the news to his mom over the phone since we didn't know when we might get to visit her.

But I have to tell the story of how I broke the news to Bo. He will kill me for sharing this with everyone.... I took two home pregnancy tests and was sure I was pregnant on a Wednesday night. (A doctor friend informed me that there are false negatives, but no such thing as a false positive. Plus sign means it's the real deal!) But I couldn't get in to see the doctor until the next Tuesday. So my initial thought was to wait and not tell Bo until after then. But the first person that I told was my friend Kara. She got all teary-eyed and was so excited, and she was honored that she got to be the person that I unloaded the burden of my secret on. She said that Bo would probably want to come with me to that doctor's appointment, so it would hurt his feelings if I didn't tell him until afterwards.

So we made our way to the Baby Gap. They have these adorable onesies with the astrological signs on them, with cute little pictures and characteristics of their personality types. Right now, my guess is a Libra, from late September through October. So we picked up this one (see above) that says...

"I am charming and easy-going
I will be consistent
love to please
balanced, constant, agreeable"

If that doesn't describe my husband, I don't know what does.... So I wrapped it up in a Gap box and we all went out for dinner. Kara & Chad have the sweetest three year old girl that loves Bo, by the way. So we are sitting with our appetizers, and I tell Bo and I got him a present. He later told me that he thought it would be pants since he is starting a new job, but the box looked really small! So he opens it up and has a very confused look on his face. I pointed at the dates on the onesie and told him, "I think this is when our baby is due." He replied, "Huh?"

I know I totally blindsided him, but it was hilarious. He looked like a deer in headlights for about 10 minutes, and he sure did manage to finish his beer quickly. Fortunately, Chad was very encouraging to Bo and told us how excited they were for us. He even said the perfect prayer that brought tears to my eyes.

It seems like Bo and I have been together a long time, but nothing really prepares you to find out that you are having a child. I know we are both excited, but of course you think of all the changes that will soon have to happen. But we know that God's promises always prove true, and that his timing is perfect. Now if he will just keep the morning sickness away, I will have a hundred more prayers of thanks to offer!
